With a voice as crystalline as her looks are waiflike, Smith could become to Scottish folk what Joni Mitchell is to its Californian cousin. Mixing traditional and original songs with both her own words and Robbie Burns’s, Smith pretty much covers all the finger-in-the-ear bases, her own tunes such as The Mermaid of Galloway and Sunset Hymn just shading the trad fare.
